In "The Will to Meaning," Frankl explains that the primary motivational force driving a person is the search for meaning. What is meaningful is defined by the core values and ideals unique to each individual and for which they are willing to live, and even to die. In "Existential Frustration," Frankl explains how blocked or unfulfilled pursuit of meaning can lead to noögenic neuroses affecting a person's mind or mental character. "Noögenic Neuroses" focuses on how these neuroses emerge from existential frustration rather than from conflicts between basic drives and instincts.

Having graduated from the University of Vienna Medical School in 1930, he went on to become the Director of the Neurological Department of the Rothschild Hospital. In 1942, however, his life abruptly changed when Frankl was deported to a Nazi concentration camp along with his family. While struggling to survive in the Nazi camp, drawing from his experiences as well as observations, he developed the theory of logotherapy which claimed that through a search for meaning in life, individuals can endure and overcome suffering.

And yet there's something in Frankl's words, something about the search for meaning, that makes it easier. The nature of that meaning is not at all clear to me now, and perhaps it never will be. Perhaps this search for meaning is in fact the purpose of life. I don't know, but thank you, Viktor. And good-bye, Roanak. You are missed. 2ff7e9595c
